Today I looked at all the Digg API contests finalists - the contest was for data visualization. Some good stuff but what I really want to see is someone expose Diggs *best* content - the hilarious comments. I’ve had some good laughs at the setups and zingers that some of the users have laid down.
In-fact this one comment made me laugh so hard yesterday - I wanted to ship the guy an award or something.
For this post - Golfer Dies After Cart Plunges Off 75 Foot Cliff - the first comment was
At least he died doing something he loved…falling off cliffs.
Classic - so many times on Digg and Slashdot I’ve seen some gems like this - but they get forgotten and lost with time.
If I had unlimited time and energy I’d build a site that hooked into Digg via the API (if it even supports this) and let users vote on the funniest comments / string of comments. Maybe even have a cool little award every week or whatever.

That’s a great idea that I hadn’t thought of - I also see side-splitting comments on Digg that deserve to be highlighted.
I’ve been dabbling with the Digg API and it’s pretty good. I might have a bash at building what you describe based on the number of ‘digg-ups’ a comment receives.
So far I’ve built…
http://www.duggornot.com
…which allows users to check how their Digg story submissions are doing.
And…
http://www.duggornot.com/comment_reader.html
… to see how their comments are doing. I plan to integrate them both soon.
They’re still in early development but I’ve learnt a lot about the Digg API in the mean time.

Cool app! I always like going back and seeing what kind of votes my comments get.
