JonPong 2K7 HD Edition!

February 7, 2007

Hehe I made this simple pong game in XNA tonight. “JonPong” is a dumb tradition I have that involves me making a Pong game with a new technology. Normally with the head of my friend Jon as the puck but I’ll just use the name for this version. JonPong was only supposed to take a day but I’ve been dragging my feet. To get motivated I promised Jon today he could punch me in the face as hard as he could if I didn’t get this done tonight. So luckily I get to keep my pretty face for a little bit longer!

In regards to the game, it’s far from a “complete game” (no sound, some glitches and the font’s dont work on the 360) but it’s also not bad for a couple hours work - and most of the time was spent making the graphics. My game dev skills are *very* rusty so I’m refreshing my skills by building some easy games before my Dream Play Build entry development.

I’m really liking XNA so far — however it’s really different from what I’m used — I’ve got some reading to do! One thing I’d like to know is — Is there a simple way of building a game for both Windows and 360 at once? or do you have to design a 2tier “engine”? I’ll figure it out I guess - I like developing and debugging on Windows, but my end goal is a 360 games.

Anyway — here’s my code if you wanna play it for Windows or XBox360. You need XNA Game Studio Express to compile and play these games btw. Up next? I’m going to build a Tetris clone and get my feet wet with shaders/special effects.
