Google Video and YouTube should be using AMT

September 23, 2006

Copywritten material keeps sneaking onto YouTube and Google video. Right now it would seem the policy is - if you complain, we’ll take it down… aaaand we have some watchdogs. However they have so much content to review I’m sure it gets very expensive and logistically complicated to staff the work force to moderate this content.

These websites should pre-scan all content that gets submitted. They should slice out random frames from the video and submit them to Mechanical Turk. They should also be provided with a list of requirements and exemptions of content. Users then simply click a big yes or no button (Kind of like the old A9 HIT’s.. remember those days?). This would allow for a scalable and on demand work force for these businesses.

So is it worth it? (southern slang)I may be no big fancy city lawyer(/southern slang) — but I sense a big lawsuit looming. This is a solution for these sites to ensure legal content /w low delay time for content approval WITH low cost.

Do you think your business could be cutting costs with Amazon Mechanical Turk? Give me a call and we can brainstorm a solution.
