Bitporters is back!

August 12, 2005

Well, it never really went away, I just had to put it on the backburner for a little over a year. I shut the original Bitporters down so that I could go get some more work experience and get some money together. During that time I turned this site into an achievement blog, I wanted to let people know what I had accomplished (working towards my MCSD, techniques I had learned etc).

I left my job as a software developer about a month ago. It was a great job but I decided to leave to help start an old co-worker upgrade his career/recruiting website www.knighthunter.com. It was a pretty intense month, but I finally got the first version of the site launched.

Knighthunter will be my first of many experiments to generate revenue from the internet. Using new technologies like .NET 2.0, Windows Vista, Smart phones and Tablet PCs, I want to investigate niche markets and see if using these new Microsoft technologies can give small businesses an edge in these markets. With the technology we have these days I don’t see why I cant be running a six figure business from my Smart phone.

Dog food. Another reason I left to work on these projects was a saying I heard someone mention at VSLive - “The guys at Microsoft are eating their own dog food, they are using VSTS while they develop it”. That made me think, for years now I have been developing solutions to problems but in the end I was not the one using them. I have shipped many successful projects but in the end I always knew some of them could have done better. Well here is my chance, I want to eat my own dog food.

The first day of going live with Knighthunter showed me how ineffective some of my tools were. Having the emails come flying in of requests I hadn’t accounted for and the pressure of things needing to be done ASAP really gave me a jolt. That night I redeveloped the main management tools so we were better equipped the next day.

Anyway back to the grind. Time to make some money.
